Ingredients:
5 Eggs; separated 2 1/4 c Sugar 1 c Shortening 2 ts Soda 2 1/2 c Cake flour 1 c Buttermilk 1 ts Vanilla 1 pn Salt 4 ts Cocoa
Cream sugar, shortening and vanilla; add egg yolks and beat until smooth.
Sift all dry ingredients together 3 times. Add dry ingredients alternately
with buttermilk to the creamed mixture. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Bake in greased and floured layer pans (3) for 20 to 25 minutes in a 325
degree oven. Frost with Seven Minute or Cream Cheese Frosting (see
recipes).
